We are writing this blog post to make sure that you are aware of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that goes into effect on May 25th, 2018. This new requirement is designed to protect individuals data and privacy when using the internet in the European Union (EU).
According to the GDPR website “The GDPR not only applies to organisations located within the EU but it will also apply to organisations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behaviour of, EU data subjects. It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union, regardless of the company’s location.”
If you feel that you fall under this regulation (almost all businesses with a web presence will fall under this requirement) we recommend you work with your legal team to confirm what you need to do to be compliant.
Thinklogic is here to provide you with any information you need regarding the cookies being used on your site, how your data is stored, and what identifiable information is saved in your database servers. We will also assist with setting up any third party tools that you may need to assist in meeting the new regulations. We have previous experience with CookieBot and it seems to do a good job in managing the explicit consent to cookies portion of GDPR. You can see a version of this on the Thinklogic website.
